New Year’s Eve into 2018

A mass of paper lanterns are launched from the Tha Phae Gate at the Old City at midnight to join the thousand lanterns already in the air floating by

The lanterns have been floating overhead for hours. All commercial flights in and out of Chiang Mai are grounded for the night
Making use of the space under a bridge

This is a view of the right side

Looking left

Underneath

It’s a city exercise park

You can see from the handholds of the cycle machine that this equipment has been here for some time. (And empty on New Year’s Eve day)

And yet this area under a highway bridge is pristine

If you want to put up a hotel but feel like all the best names are already taken, just call it what it is

Like a blast from the past, the gas station attendants not only pump your gas in Thailand but they wash the windshield too. If you tell a Thai person that you have to pump your own gas and bag your own groceries in the U.S. they will laugh at your obvious joke. There’s no way rich Americans were hoodwinked into doing that!
I’m sure KFC is none too thrilled that four times a week (every week) there’s a massive street vendor market that sets up right in front of their restaurant. You can get fried chicken for less money out front. Ouch!
Within two blocks of my condo there is nightly music on the streets. On the rooftop of Maya Mall there are at least five pop/rock bands playing at the six bars up there. But that’s another video.
Christmas time in Chiang Mai

Video shows Christmas lights strung up everywhere and festive music triggers dancing at a moment’s notice.
30 Mile Bike Trip

Our group rode the train to Lamphun, south of Chiang Mai.

Our bikes were driven down to meet us at the train station. The support truck is always nearby along the way for support.

There are plenty of stops along the way. It’s not a race!
